One benefit of the quieter winter months at Just Cycle is having more time to invest in our student volunteers.
New volunteers are welcome to join our team all year round, and our experienced family of bicycle mechanics led by Workshop Manager Grant Martin, are on hand, willing and able to pass on their experience, skills and knowledge.
Student volunteer Angus, who is currently enjoying the festive break is a regular volunteer during his end of term breaks from Strathallan.
With Grants supportive guidance, Angus has been working away this week, serving his own bike and learning how to restore donated bikes that will eventually make it to the recycled bicycle sales room.
Angus is enjoying learning lots of new skills while at the same time, providing a much appreciated service for the charity.
We asked Angus what he had learned during his recent volunteering time with us and in his words, “I’ve mainly learned Patience, rather than jumping headlong into things. Today we worked on gear adjustment, changing the derailleur, derailleur set up and gear cable replacement and adjustment”
Skills development and passing on experience is a huge part of Just Cycles story and is a win, win for all concerned. A massive thank you and a happy, healthy new year goes out to all our volunteers, past and present.
